Detailed Buyer’s Guide for Gaming Laptops

Gaming laptops are a real thing now. Although they don’t beat a custom built PC. But sometimes you just want some portability.

There used to be a time when laptops were not powerful enough to fulfil your gaming needs, But now one can see lots of best laptops for gaming. These laptops are pretty much capable of playing all well-known and best games.

But choosing laptops for gaming purposes is not as simple as it seems. You should not choose a gaming laptop based on specs and brand only. You need to look into several things.

Here we will be going through several things which are important parts of choosing a gaming laptop. If you look into these things, you will get a good gaming laptop for sure.

So let’s a quick look at what these things are and then we will get into the details.

  1. The GPU must be up-to-date
  2. The laptop should be upgradable
  3. Display resolution is important
  4. Keyboard should be suitable for playing games

5.No compromise on battery life should be made

Now let’s get into the details of these five important things.

GPU is the most important thing in a gaming laptop and there is no doubt about it. But the question is, what GPU do you need? Because you will come across a wide range of graphics cards and you may get confused.

The question you need to ask yourself is are you an entry-level, a mid-level or a pro gamer? Because for entry-level gaming you don’t need to go for a very high specs graphics card, this is because they are quite expensive.

If you are an entry-level gamer then GTX 1050 or GTX 1060 is going to be the best fit for you. These graphics cards are lower on specs then some of the recently released cards but pretty obvious they are much lower on price as well. You must look in detail into some of the best graphics card and check what you really need.

On the other hand if you are a professional gamer who plays games like PUBG and DOTA 2 then you definitely need to go for a GPU like GTX 1080Ti or something with specs same as that of GTX 1080Ti.

2. Upgradibility

Not all laptops let you make upgradations later on. This is why you need to think about it in advance. You may need a higher RAM or you may want to install an SSD in your laptop later on.

So if you go for a gamin laptop which is not upgradable, you’ll have no other option but to replace it in case you want to upgrade. And this is one of the most important thing to consider before buying a gaming laptop. Because many gamers do these upgradations time to time.

3. Display

Display is very critical among gaming laptops. If you don’t have a nice display other specs won’t matter at all.

But how do choose what display you need? So, you need to look into several things.

First and foremost is the size. You always know what you need. 15 inch, 17 inch or even bigger than that. This depends on how far you sit from your laptop and also what size excites you the most.

Next is the resolution. You will have the option to choose between 1080p, 2k and 4k. This also depends on what you need. Going for a higher resolution like 4k without needing it is also an issue. This is because it sucks your battery very fast and also makes the process of gaming a bit slow. So don’t go for a higher resolution until you really need it. The other side to it is that with a higher resolution you definitely need a higher spec GPU and this is going to cost you more bucks.

4. Keyboard

The keyboard of a gaming laptop is also an important part of selection process. A tight keyboard having keys very near to each other will irritate you while you play first person shooter games.

You need to look into how far he keys are, how much force a key requires and the backlighting etc.

Backlighting is important. Gamers love to have these lights on the keyboard. Here some lights are fixed while other are custom. In some keyboards you will not have the option to change the lighting color while others let you choose what you want.

5. Battery

Last but not the least is the battery life. It is important because gaming laptops are specifically preferred over a PC because of the portability. And portability is of no use if the battery life is not good.

It should be pretty clear that battery life of gaming laptops is not the same as normal laptops. You can get 2 hours of battery life at most on a good gaming laptop. Most gaming laptops have 1 hour battery life and some real best laptops gives you 2 hours. If you are looking for a gaming laptop having a battery life above 2 hours, it won’t be a gaming laptops.

This is because gaming laptops have high resolution display and power hungry graphics cards. They cannot work on battery for hours.

This is pretty much all about choosing the best gaming laptops for yourself. Hope it helped you out. You must look into these things before buying any gaming laptop. If you don’t take these factors seriously you may get your hands on a laptop which you won’t be liking after buying it.
